Dog Obedience Shouldn't be a mystery...

Dog Obedience is the result of 3 key factors working in harmony:  Training, Conditioned Responses, and Relationship. Most dog trainers today focus on the first two only, and don't help the owner with building the right skills and relationship with their dog. The results are limited and short-lived once the trainer is no longer present. I want to help you learn how to train and reinforce desired behaviors in your dog while establishing yourself as a trusted and respected leader so that the results are permanent.

My Story

My name is Rob, but people often call me Bobby. My wife and I are residents of Key West and a life-long dog owners. When we rescued my lab/cattledog mix 15 years ago, I became obsessed with meeting his needs and making him the most perfect companion possible. I read lots of books and studied the work of countless trainers, combining their philosophies into my own constantly-evolving method. I started helping family members and friends with their dogs and had a high amount of success after very short sessions. The people I worked with were elated, telling me on several occasions that they had worked with professional trainers in the past but were unsuccessful, and that I should start my own dog training business. Reflecting on this, I realized that their problem wasn't what the other trainers lacked skills with dogs, but rather that they didn't focus on empowering the dog owner with those same skills. In 2025, I started experimenting with Dog Owner Education as a business. After positive feedback, I am investing more into this business this year, looking to help as many dog owners and their pets as possible. I also recently adopted an Australian Cattle Dog named Cody, who is becoming a great teacher to me and inspiration to my clients.

My Philosophy

I believe in the transformative power that comes with building a healthy relationship with your companion. While I can show you the way, taking the journey towards a healthy relationship is your responsibility to your dog.

I believe that dog training and conditioning skills should not be a mystery. Whether its learning to walk with a loose leash or how to achieve better recall, I do it in right in front of you explaining along the way, ultimately teaching you to do it yourself. This is how I empower the owner to achieve permanent results.

Finally, I believe a big part of the wellbeing of your dog comes from teaching them to live in our human world.  This requires safe, clear, and effective communication with your dog. I teach you how to encourage good behavior and discourage bad behavior. If you are looking for a "force-free" training experience. This may not be what you are looking for. Depending on the state of your dog, we may need to employ some elements of Balanced Training, which includes both Reward and Correction, just like you would a human child. This is done ALWAYS with the welfare of your dog in mind.

2. A Path Based on Your Goals

Our first session will include a free in-home evaluation where we discuss goals and demonstrate how we will pursue them if we decide to move forward together. These sessions work best if every member of the family attends.

3. Homework!

The sessions are intended to show you how to communicate with your dog and how to address problematic behaviors. In the session, you will likely see me begin to show results with your dog. However, you will only achieve lasting success if you apply these learnings to your everyday life and invest time into improving your dog's wellbeing.

Modules

Our initial offerings. Our modules are a work and progress and we're looking to add more. Please let us know if you have a suggestion or specific need not covered below.

CORE:

Core Skills are easy for the dog handler to learn and are a great starting point for most dog owners.

Loose Leash Walking

A dog pulling on the leash during a walk is probably the easiest thing to fix. We have a near 100% success rate in teaching this skill to owners and having them achieve lasting results.

Basic Obedience Skills

How to effectively teach sit, down, stay, place. Teaching your dog these basic commands effectively is only a small part of the real lesson here. The real lesson, is teaching your dog that your words matter.

Home Control

Learning how to address problematic behaviors inside the home. Using "graduated freedom" and "structured play," you will shape your dog into understanding the behaviors that are desired within the home.

ADVANCED:

Advanced Skills are more nuanced and require mastery of the above Core Skills as prerequisites.

Heel Walking

More advanced techniques to teach your dog how to walk tightly against your side in crowded places. Must have a successful loose-leash walk before you take on this module.

Addressing Reactivity

How to address barking/lunging at other dogs or people while on a walk. Requires a successful loose-leash walk and heel before you take on this module.

Off-Leash Walking

Advance in your skills, teaching your dog how to make good decisions off leash in real world environments. Note: this is the pinnacle of obedience training and is not for everyone. It requires mutually earned trust between you and your pet.
